Lusitania, officially the Kingdom of Lusitania, is a sovereign independent nation located in the Northwestern continent, bordered in the north by the Douro and Tagus River, and the south by the Medi Sea, there's also the colony of Ebora to the South across the Medi Sea. Politically it is bordered by Impasse in the North, SPQR on the West and Holy Jaded Empire on the Southwest. Lusitania has a small active population, however it manages to be somewhat relevant due to it's contributions to the server, consisting of maps and artwork, and also thanks to it's diplomatic ties to more important countries, such as Southshire, Yoahtl, Impasse and Carpathia.

The economy of Lusitania was based around wine making, and it is still a big part of the local culture, however after the events of the Ore crisis Lusitania was forced to change it's focus and has now diversified it's economy in order to allow more flexibility.

History

First Settlement

The bay of Mersea and Palácio D'Ouro on the background

During the decline of CivEx 3.0, Metriximor was looking for a place to call home, after reaching Impasse and heading south in hopes of reaching the Commonwealth he stopped by in the bay of Mersea to eat some food, however, the beauty of the land and it's rich and vast natural resources made Metriximor call this place home and begin construction of the Palácio D'Ouro.

Counties Founded:

  • Portucale
  • Olissipona
  • Mersea

A Wave of Construction

After construction on the Palácio D'Ouro began, some nomads passing by joined, and one by one Lusitania grew in population. Many infrastructure and public construction projects began in the meanwhile: A fully operational metro system, public mines, a tunnel for an international rail to Impasse, many factories, public farms, docks, roads and border defense systems. This was the most active period of Lusitania, and during this time it accumulated a lot of resources.

Counties Founded:

  • Lutetia
  • Petra

An Age of Abandon

With the beginning of the Somber War and end of summer, the population on the whole server dropped and Lusitania was heavily affected, dropping to only a few citizens active, where culture and resources were once being extracted from the land, now stood empty land. During this time, the mines and chests of Lusitania were raided, the factories damaged and broken, and the buildings vandalized, leaving only a few ruins in place.

Counties Abolished:

  • Lutetia
  • Petra

Lusitan Renaissance

The king Metriximor relogged a few months later to find Lusitania in ruins, and so went touring around other nations, stopping in Southshire, Yoahtl, Commonwealth, Pacem, Tierra de Conciencia, Mount Augusta and the many other cities located along the Hjaltland-Impasse Transportation Service and the Great Overland Railway. Upon buying a house in Southshire, Metriximor headed back north to Lusitania with the intent to rebuild Lusitania. Repairing the factories was the greatest priority, but what brought him back was the wish to open the Royal Lusitania Winery to make the finest Lusitan wines, an international product for exportation.

This era is marked by the end of the Somber War, a conflict that lasted for a large amount of time, and ended with the fall of the Lexington Vault.

Counties Founded:

  • Cape Cyprus

The Ore Crisis and Consequences

After the update to 1.12, the server was hit by a distinct lack of ore spawning, which provoked a global crisis, causing some nations to shift the currency system and halting various projects, Lusitania had a stockpile of diamonds which managed to last throughout the crisis, however sometime during the crisis brewing ceased working, and Lusitania's economy, which was based on wine making and selling was stranded, already struggling due to the lack of buyers, this chapter of Lusitania is marked by various attempts to diversify the economic output of the nation in order to find some other resource that would fill the role of wine in the previous economic system. A big change in international policy lead Lusitania to claim the ruins of the former city of Rotterdam aswell as some of the surrounding area.

Counties abolished:

  • Cape Cyprus

  • Rotterdam
  • Cilpes
  • Apolland

Olympian Efforts Both at Home and Abroad

Following an increase in activity, Lusitania grew to become more involved in both national and international events, vastly growing it's economy, breaking it's first vault, a hidden obsidian vault protected by 4 bastions located near Rotterdam. Also, the county of Centum Cellas began and finished construction of a massive cathedral that dominates the skyline of the Eastern portion of the mainland. During this period Lusitania had a big shift in internal politics to fix problems in the legal system and voting methods. The height of this period is marked by the CivOlympics, where Lusitania's most prestigious athletes, KnotNSA, Metriximor and ScandinavianTaco competed and brought home 2 silvers and 3 bronzes, ending up in 7th place. In the downtime a vote was held to rename the Augska archipelago in southern Rotterdam to Llammatown(the other option was Tophertown) which served as a great way to establish deeper tie among other nations in the Northwest quadrant. The end of this era is marked by the beginning of the 2018 summer and the peaceful handover of the city of Rotterdam to Columbia.

Geography

The political map of mainland Lusitania

Lusitania's Geographic Society works on making the best maps to depict the Northwest continent accurately, it's responsible for the making of all maps related to Lusitania and collaborates with other organizations from other countries.

Borders and Colonies

The mainland of Lusitania is surrounded entirely by water, to the west and north by the Douro River, the east by the Tagus River, and to the south by the Medi sea.

Ebora, Lusitania's colony, sits across the Medi sea, it's possible to get there by boat or by rail, near Ebora sits the Malateca archipelago and the Colissipo National Park. There is also Asturias, a small outpost on the other side of the Douro river, this is mainly to secure a biome to plant spruce trees.

Olimpia is the island located southeast of Lusitania. It is surrounded by the Medi sea except in the northern bit, where an affluent of the Tagus river flows into it.

Seldomland, the most recent expansion of Lusitania was generously ceded by the highest officials of Impasse, Seldomshock and Jaydrive.[1]

Biome and Climate

The mainland of Lusitania is mostly plains, which allows for extensive farming and animal husbandry, aswell as providing a lot of easily terraformable land, however the north east tip of the landmass is a swampy area that allows access to planting mushrooms and all other kinds of swamp goods, such as slime and vines.

Mersea is a beach biome, which allows for the planting of Sugar Cane and other goods associated with tropical biomes.

Ebora is a mesa biome, and is the source of most clay used in the construction of every building in Lusitania, it also serves as cactus farm, but it's not very developed since chunks aren't loaded for the cactus to grow.

There's also Asturias, which are the mountains on the other side of the Douro River, which allows for Spruce trees to be planted and therefore allow for more diversity in building materials.

Subdivisions

Lusitania is subdivided into counties, which is a piece of land within defined borders approved by the Senate that is ruled by a Lord and answers directly to the monarch, within each county there are elections for the Lordship.

According to the Lusitan Constitution[2] land that does not belong to a county but is within the borders of Lusitania is to be managed by the monarch or the prime minister. With the exception of Portucale and Olissipona, which are managed by the king himself due to special status. Many counties were passed into law, however due to the abandonment and vandalization of Lusitania, many counties were abolished.

To pass a county into law a proposal must be submitted to the Senate and pass with a simple majority.

Portucale

Palácio D'Ouro Aerial View

The capital county of Lusitania, here lies most of the public infrastructure of the country, from the mines to the farms, and also many of Lusitania's factories. The architectural style of Portucale is late medieval and it is famous for its bright orange acacia roofs.

Mersea

A beautiful sunset on the Veneto

Mersea, founded by Savalaia, is the third county to be passed into law is home to some of the country factories, and most importantly, home to the Veneto Palace. The architectural style of Mersea is venetian/italian/artdeco. The current lord current lord is Savalaia and Mersea is under a big remodelation, with the former sugarcane farm having been moved offshore to allow the construction of new buildings and a brand new tunnel was built to connect Mersea to Portucale.

Former lords:

  • KnotNSA

Olissipona

Olissipona was the second county to be passed into law, however no citizen can inhabit it unless it is a testificate, and in that case, it's under protection by the constitution[2]. After the abandonment of Lusitania, Olissipona also became a bunch of ruins, and all of its inhabitants died during a purge of the server mob population.

Petra

The fourth county passed into law, the ruins of Petra are still visible to this day, founded shortly before the beginning of the Dark Age, it's founders provided most mineral resources. Nowadays it's used for some of the factories located in there and it was the site chosen for the construction of the Royal Winnery, being integrated and becoming an official part of the crownlands and the county of Portucale.

Cipria

Cipria, also called Cape Cyprus was founded by tradespin on the 11th of April of 2018, it is the sixth county to be passed into law, the planned buildstyle for the cape is crusader castles, such as Limasol. Due to inactivity it was declared as abandoned and nowadays is part of the crownlands. It was absorbed into the county of Portucale on the tenth of July 2018.

Little Saskatchewa

Little Saskatchewa or Little S was the ninth county to be passed into law, it was founded by _Canada_Syrup_ in the 31st of May of 2018, it's a small village using a dark oak style and consisting of a few small huts and statues. It was home to the former branch of the worker's party which is for now disbanded. It's home to the first overground rail of Lusitania.

Centum Cellas

CentumCellas, founded by ScandinavianTaco on the 31st of May of 2018. It incorporates the southeastern portion of the mainland, and it’s temperate climate and ceaseless winds make it ideal for growing white wines. Home to the Cathedral of Centum Cellas, the county is Ecceliastical in nature as most municipal functions are carried out within the church’s offices. A subdivision of Centum Cellas, a forest to the church’s north, is called Whitewood and exists as the source of the majority of birch wood from the island. Currently, various topographical efforts aims to make the county even more efficient in it’s preservation and profit from the natural beauty from which it is blessed..

Petra(Asturias)

Unlike the former Petra, which is now part of Portucale, this Petra is located in the outpost of Asturias, it's a deep, underground focused build, featuring it's own brewery, hot springs, bunker, quarry and a very unique culture(although the love for wine is shared with all other Lusitans), it's the only county where unpaid unvoluntary work is allowed. It's lord is DsmFTW and it was effectively the most recent county to be passed into law.

Politics and Government

As explained in section C of the constitution[2], the Lusitan government is lead by a monarch, with a prime minister elected every fortnight. The government is split into two chambers:

  • Senate
  • House of Commons

Forming political parties is legal and encouraged.

This section is gona suffer a huge rework after the new Lusitan constitution goes live.

Political Parties

  • The Worker's Party - A branch from the MTA Worker's Party, led by charlameme.
  • Radical Bezosism Party - A party led by DsmFTW, focus on memes and anti-communism, pro Jeff Bezos.
  • County Party - A party that was formed by a coallition of Savalaia and _Canada_Syrup_ with the focus on more left leaning policies.
  • Union Party - A party led by KnotNSA with policies centered around centralization.

Public Infraestructure

National Rail Lines of Lusitania
  • Lusitania National Park - The Lusitania National Park was planted by the king in order to mass produce apples and wood. It's free to use but it's protected under Lusitan law so when a tree is chopped down a new one must be replanted in the spot of the old one and any new saplings must be planted in order to expand the park.
  • National Rail Lines - There is a line going across the Medi sea to the cactus/nether warts/clay farms, another one heading to the hub which is currently abandoned, and the very important Trigo(which goes to communal farms) and Quarry, which goes to the old quarry, which nowadays fills the purpose of underground mine aswell as a overground rail to Little Saskatchewa and a rail to Petra(Asturias).
  • Royal Library of Lusitania - Not built yet, it will serve as a way to store the culture of both Lusitania and other nations that offer/sell the books to Lusitania.
  • Royal Lusitania Winnery - The finest Lusitan wines are produced here, as well the preservation and procreation of the valuable knowledge of the trade essential in this industry.
  • Public Mines - Most digging is done at y level 11, many hallways are not light up so monsters are plenty, be careful.
  • Mersea Bay-Douro River Underground Canal - This hooks Mersea Bay to the Douro river in order to cut the time it takes to travel between Lusitania and Impasse. It was closed of by a work project on the bay of Portucale.
  • Multiple Communal Farms - Scattered all over the countryside, their purpose is to feed the populace and produce experience, the biggest ones are located in Rotterdam.
  • Téspian Auditorium - This theather hall, set for a grand opening, is where Lusitania holds public festivities, theather plays and many other public events.
  • CRL Estrela - Lusitania's first navy ship, a caravel currently docked in the bay of Mersea.
  • Grand Central Station - Connects all the overground rails of Lusitanian in a central location.
  • Rotterdam Public Library - The library from a repurposed building in Rotterdam, a decent chunk of books are stored here.
  • Colissipo National Park - Located to the south of Ebora, this park althoug not within the claims of Lusitania is the source of Dark Oak Wood for the whole of Lusitania.

Economy

Lusitania is home to a significant ammount of wealth, however it's confined to intermediate products and can't produce industrial levels of experience and enchanted gear like the biggest nations can. The biggest strain on Lusitania's economy is lack of manpower, otherwise, there is ample space for farming, diamond veins are fairly common.

However, the lack of high end factories and industry makes a few high end items unavailable, forcing them to be imported from neighboring nations, such as enchanted gear, bastions, higher level potions and exotic materials not native to Lusitania's fauna and flora(However, those can be imported and grown within the legal borders).

Lusitania is also pioneer in the use of paper money[3], the Escudo with a flexible exchange rate, starting at 100 Escudos to 1 diamond. It is important to note this is not used ingame at all, and it's main purpose is to add flavor to the nation.(However, any legal emitted tender with a legal serial number can be exchanged at the Royal Bank of Lusitania for it's diamond equivalent, which might be hard to do so because a legal print has never ocurred).

Exports

Lusitania is famous for it's wine, the apples and nether warts grow under the intense Medi sun to produce the most authentic and flavorful wines that are then brewed by the most skilled artisans and aged in the highest quality wooden barrels. It's exported to all corners of the map and highly regarded as a strong, tastefull wine with a sweet aftertaste.

Aside from wine, Lusitania's mineral output is enough to allow it to enter the international markets as a high end items importer.

Culture

There are multiple incentives and efforts by the government to develop the local culture. Some organizations were created for that purpose:

Lusitania culture is very varied from county to county, each county having it's own quirks, however all of them share a apreciation of wine.
